The Dutch have more holiday plans for 2024 than last year, according to the most recent Holiday Sentiment Monitor by the NBTC. Marlotte Jansen presented the figures at the Trade Day. For example, 85% of those surveyed have holiday plans. This means that the holiday intention of the Dutch is higher than a year ago (80%). Dutch people with many holiday plans expect to take an average of two to three (2.4) holidays, a number that has remained unchanged. When do we book? 29% percent of Dutch people have already booked a holiday in 2024, with three-quarters of those cases being a holiday in the first half of the year. More than 50% have holiday intentions but have yet to book, of which 60% are already orienting themselves, mostly for May, June and July. Where to go? Not often to their own country. In 2024, the Dutch are less likely to stay within their borders, but want to move elsewhere in Europe. They are solo travelling Dutch people who will travel relatively often intercontinental and to Asia. Is AI already being used in this? Although it is used around booking holidays, this was mainly done among a young target group. 30% of those surveyed have used an AI tool such as ChatGPT, of which 32% did so for holiday inspiration. How do we go? For a European holiday, an average of 56% choose the plane (increase 3%), and 8% the train (increase 3%). Compared to other Europeans, the Dutch still like to travel by car (36%) What are we thinking about? Current themes when booking a trip are currently sustainability (49% try to take this into account when choosing transport, destination or accommodation), prices (48% are adjusting holiday behaviour due to rising prices) and the chance of extreme weather (39% let holiday choice influence this).
