President and CEO of Boeing Dave Calhoun today announced his decision to step down as CEO at the end of 2024. He will continue to lead Boeing throughout the year. He’s not the only one leaving the much-criticized aircraft manufacturer. Chairman Larry Kelner will step down in May and will be replaced by Steve Mollenkopf. Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, is leaving immediately. The reshuffle at the top is a direct result of a series of incidents that have caused a sharp decline in confidence in Boeing, both in the industry and among consumers. The latest incident involved Alaska Airlines. Quote “It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve Boeing,” Calhoun said in a letter to employees.
“The eyes of the world are on us, and I know we will get through this moment as a better company. We will continue to focus fully on completing the work we have done together to bring our business back to stability after the extraordinary challenges of the past five years, with safety and quality at the forefront of everything we do.”
