Nordic, specialist in travel to Scandinavia, acquires Askja Reizen. The acquisition is in line with Nordic’s strategy to diversify and expand its travel offer to the High North. Askja Travel is a well-known travel company with 35 years of experience in travel to Scandinavia and Iceland. The acquisition is an important step for Nordic, says Maarten Raes, founder and CEO of Nordic: “The acquisition of Askja Reizen is a logical step in our strategy to increase market share in the Netherlands. Together, we want to offer our customers a unique travel experience in the unspoiled nature of Scandinavia.” Hugo van Drie, director of Nordic in the Netherlands, will take charge of the 35 employees of Askja Reizen. He will work closely with Ilse Geerts, current CEO of Askja Reizen: “Our shared vision and focus on high-quality service and unique travel experiences make us perfectly complementary. By joining forces, we not only strengthen our position in the market, but also increase the value we offer to our customers.” Limited impact for customers Nothing will change for existing customers of Askja Reizen. They can continue to count on the quality, expertise and personal service that Askja is known for. In the future, they will also benefit from Nordic’s wide range of offerings and innovative approaches, such as charter flights to Lapland and Lofoten. Other acquisitions and partnerships In addition to Askja Reizen, Nordic Collection, of which Nordic is a part, also acquires VNC Asia Travel. This Asia specialist is a perfect addition to the Nordic Collection portfolio. In addition, Nordic welcomes Go North as a new partner. Go North is a local Icelandic DMC (Destination Management Company) that focuses on self-drive packages and special groups in Iceland. Sander van Opstal and Eppo Steenhuisen, the former owners of Askja Reizen and Go North Iceland, are pleased with the acquisition: “We are very happy with it, it is the best possible match for both companies. There was a click from the start.”
