Transavia operated the first flight to the Georgian capital Tbilisi on Saturday afternoon.
Marcel de Nooijer, CEO of Transavia, together with the Georgian ambassador to the Netherlands David Solomia, reflected on the achievement of this milestone before the departure of the flight.
This summer season, there will be two flights a week from Schiphol to and from the capital of Georgia. The flights are scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
‘Georgia is a great new addition to our network,’ says De Nooijer.
“As an airline, one of the core tasks is to connect people and regions. We see that people want to travel. That they want to discover new areas. It’s great that we can play a role in this with new destinations.’
As a destination, Tbilisi offers possibilities for both a city trip and for discovering the area. In the centuries-old city, history and contemporary culture go hand in hand, with the old town center and its narrow streets, colorful houses and charming squares.
The city is located at the foot of the majestic Caucasus Mountains, making it a good base for hikers and nature lovers, says Transavia.
Georgia also has extensive vineyards in the Kakheti region.
