On 19 August, the Calamity Commission determined a calamity and eligible situation due to the eruption of the Etna volcano in Sicily.
The volcano on the Italian island erupted on August 15.
Catania International Airport was temporarily closed and no flights were operated.
This had to do with ash particles in the airspace.
As a result, travel companies were unable to meet their obligations to their passengers.
The Calamity Committee sees the volcanic eruption as a natural disaster.
The Committee established that there was a calamity and a situation that could be paid for in Sicily.
This means that decisions have been taken that make it possible to reimburse any costs for so-called ‘forced longer stays’.
