After TUI, Corendon has also decided not to participate in the upcoming edition of the Vakantiebeurs, which will be held in the Jaarbeurs in January.
‘It’s a big investment in money and manpower in an already busy time,’ says Dick Gussen, director of Brand, Media & Partnerships at Corendon when asked by TravMagazine.
‘In addition to the costs for the stand itself, you also have to ensure that the stand is well occupied.
So you have to take those people away from the office in a busy month.
All these costs and efforts do not outweigh the proceeds of participating in the fair. In addition, we already saw last year that fewer and fewer of our customers came to the fair with the main reason for booking.
We’re going to see what a year’s absence will mean.’
TUI announced earlier this year that it would not participate in the upcoming Holiday Fair.
TUI CEO Arjan Kers used almost the same arguments that Corendon mentions.
Kers stated that TUI had made a well-considered choice.
‘Despite many discussions with the Jaarbeurs and suggestions from TUI to make the Vakantiebeurs a relevant attraction for holiday lovers again, they have not succeeded in turning the tide. The costs, time and effort involved in participating in the fair do not outweigh what we get out of it,’ said Kers earlier this year.
Exhibition manager Marleen Rompen previously stated that she regretted TUI’s decision and would continue with the renewal of the fair.
