A new name, but not a new face within the travel industry. Chris van Eck took over RECRON Service’s short-term cancellation insurance segment in 2018 and continued under the new name RecreatieVerzekeringen. He focuses on a diverse target group, from campsites and holiday parks, yacht rental companies, consumers to tour operators and travel agents. In other words, we have been standing on my own two feet in the market for about six years. Why is Van Eck currently focusing more actively on the B2B market? ‘We have always been active in that market, but before that we only focused on the recreation sector. Last year, we also added the Short-term Travel Insurance and the Excess Buyout Insurance. Soon the continuous travel/cancellation insurance will be added. In the travel sector, we focus on both tour operators and travel agents.’ Differentiating in the market Most travel companies (tour operators and travel agents) already have a contract with travel insurance; It’s a displacement market. When we ask Van Eck how he intervenes, he says: ‘Firstly, because of the various options we offer the travel industry to offer insurance to their guests. In addition, through the cooperation with Anker Insurance Company, we also have the opportunity to offer cancellation insurance to customers who do not live in the Netherlands. And thirdly, we can directly insure a travel sum of up to 30,000 euros per booking. On request, even up to 100,000 euros, but with additional conditions and depending on a number of factors such as the departure date of the holiday and the booking conditions.’
Proud ‘I am proud that we have managed to put our own products on the market in collaboration with Anker Insurance Company,’ he says when we are curious about which innovative products of RecreatieVerzekeringen he is proud of. ‘With its own policy conditions (white label). These are the short-term cancellation, group cancellation, short-term travel and the surrender excess insurance. And, of course, our API links for these products.’
