
The oneworld alliance celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since 1999, the alliance has carried nearly nine billion customers with its member airlines, Launched on February 1, 1999 by its founders American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, the alliance was formed to increase connectivity and flexibility for passengers and reward frequent flyer customers with special benefits and privileges. Since then, oneworld has grown to 13 airlines: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, 26 member airlines and oneworld connect partner Fiji Airways. Oman Air is expected to join the alliance in 2024, becoming its 14th full member. 900 destinations Today, oneworld member airlines collectively serve more than 900 destinations worldwide, offering customers unparalleled access to more than 600 premium airport lounges, extra baggage allowances, the ability to earn and redeem miles across the network and fast-track security lanes at select airports.
