Pieter van Oord, CEO of the dredging group and family business Van Oord, will become the new CEO of Royal Schiphol Group as of 1 June 2024. The supervisory board (rvc) intends to appoint him until June 1, 2028. The rvc appointed Pieter van Oord because of his very broad managerial experience in a complex, operational sector. His experience in the field of assets and vision of making the aviation sector more sustainable weighed heavily on the rvc. The shareholders and the central works council of Royal Schiphol Group support his appointment.
Van Oord succeeds Ruud Sondag. Sondag has been interim CEO since Nov. 1, 2022, and will stay on until March 1, 2024, at which time he will no longer be available due to other commitments previously made. From March 1 to June 1, CFO Robert Carsouw is interim CEO. Pieter van Oord has led Royal Van Oord, an international marine contractor, since 2008. The company is at the forefront of companies contributing to the acceleration of the energy transition. Besides dredging, offshore, oil and gas, offshore wind has become one of the main pillars of the company under his leadership. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of National Park De Hoge Veluwe and President-Commissioner of Stadion Feijenoord, among other things. The CEO-designate said: ‘Schiphol is a major hub for Dutch and international mobility. I realise that this meaning must go hand in hand with other interests, both inside and outside the airport. I would like to contribute to the transition of Schiphol and aviation, based on a responsibility that I feel for our society. I am looking forward to the handover period with Ruud Sondag and to working with the entire Schiphol team. I do this in the knowledge that I am leaving the wonderful Van Oord family business in good hands.’
Jaap Winter, chief executive officer of Royal Schiphol Group: ‘We are very pleased that Pieter van Oord will take up the position of CEO of Royal Schiphol Group. Pieter’s experience and abilities are impressive. He is a highly experienced and internationally oriented CEO of a successful company. He has intensive experience in the areas of logistics operation and asset management, two areas with major challenges for Schiphol in the coming years. For Pieter, sustainability is an essential issue. This is in line with Schiphol’s ambitions to accelerate sustainability and reduce environmental and climate impact. He is an experienced leader who can build teams and strengthen confidence in Schiphol among its own employees and the outside world.
