The shrinkage of Schiphol has been postponed. Aviation Minister Harbers told the House of Representatives. This means that even in the summer season, there will be a maximum of 500,000 slots instead of 460,000. American pressure seems to be the main reason for the remarkable change in direction.
Very recently, as previously known, there have been close consultations between Harbers, Brussels and the U.S. authorities. These threaten to take away KLM slots as a retaliatory response to the shrinkage decision that would also hit American airlines with fewer slots or no operation at all.
Slots for summer 2024 had already been distributed. No doubt this will now be adjusted.
