
More and more Dutch people are opting for the convenience of a rental car during their holiday. They prefer to do this with a party that offers an all-in rental package, to avoid any additional costs. This is evident from research that Sunny Cars commissioned this spring among 1,000 Dutch people over the age of 25. Four out of five respondents who rented a car in the past three years said they would like to do so again in the next three years. Nearly half of the Dutch people surveyed rented a car more than once a year during this period. More than half of them actually read the lease, but only a third of them actually understand it. It is striking that the over-40s in particular indicate that they think they know exactly what is covered by the damage and theft insurance. One in ten say they don’t look into it and take everything as it is. ‘Tip for the travel agent to always discuss the voucher with the customer. This way, the customer will not be faced with any surprises and will be fully aware of our extensive package,” says Hans Knottnerus, Managing Director Netherlands, Belgium and France.
‘We stand for car rental without worries and that is why every customer is extra covered against glass, tires, soil and roof damage and we have taken out an extra third-party insurance of up to 10 million euros. We also provide a refund of the deductible as standard.’ In addition to the price, the rental conditions are extremely important for a majority of Dutch people (54%) when choosing a rental car, especially due to the fact that all costs are included (61%), the customer does not have a deductible (47%) and unlimited mileage is included (46%). According to Sunny Cars, it is therefore not surprising that two out of three car renters opt for all-in insurance in terms of insurance, rather than going for the necessary basis or taking out separate, additional insurances. Yet 39% of all car drivers say they have paid extra for extra insurance. ‘Unfortunately, as the research also showed, we still notice that extra insurance policies are taken out because of confusion. Especially after a long flight, I can well imagine that customers start to have doubts when they are asked this question,’ says Knottnerus.
