Transavia will charge for larger hand luggage that does not fit under the seat. The new cabin baggage conditions will change as of 3 April this year. In the new situation, passengers will continue to be able to take one small piece of hand luggage on board free of charge if it fits under the seat. If a passenger also wishes to take a large piece of cabin baggage on board, this must be booked in addition. The new policy applies to passengers booking after April 3. The starting price for taking a piece of cabin baggage weighing up to 10 kilos is 10 euros each way. According to Transavia, the capacity in the overhead bins is often insufficient to fully process the flow of trolleys in the cabin in a timely manner. Often, last-minute baggage has to be taken in and then placed in the hold. “Furthermore, the change in policy is necessary because we are struggling with ever-increasing costs, including for emission rights, renewal of our fleet, airport charges and maintenance,” says the airline. With this new policy, Transavia wants to further improve the travel experience of its passengers, the airline said in a statement. There will be a transition period in the coming period, until 3 April. In concrete terms, this means that the old scheme applies to passengers who booked before 3 April. So even if they travel after 3 April, they will fall under the old conditions. The old regulation will also continue to apply to allotment bookings where the passenger travels up to and including 3 November. Booking cabin baggage can be done via all partner channels or My Transavia. Unlike in the past, this can also be booked for group bookings, but only via the Service Center. In mid-December , it was announced that Transavia passengers might have to pay for hand luggage in the cabin. Although hand luggage has been included in the ticket price until now, Transavia has room for up to 70 pieces in the luggage bins. As soon as they are full, the luggage is collected upon boarding and placed in the hold. If you want to be sure that your hand luggage can be taken into the cabin, you could already reserve a place for your hand luggage for a fee. (Photo Shutterstock).
