Most Dutch people still prefer to spend their holiday allowance on travelling. This is evident from a recent online poll by TUI on social media. Although other sectors such as the white goods industry and furniture stores also traditionally prey on holiday pay, many people choose to actually use their annual holiday pay for a holiday instead of other consumer goods. The poll, conducted among almost 1,000 Dutch people, shows that more than half (57%) of respondents plan to use their holiday allowance to book a trip. Almost a quarter (23%) put aside holiday pay to save. One in ten say they do not yet know how their holiday allowance is spent. In addition, 11% say they do not receive holiday pay. “These results highlight the importance of holidays for Dutch consumers, even at a time when there is competition from other spending options,” TUI said in a press release. TUI is calling on Dutch holidaymakers not to wait to book because of the high demand in other markets. “Travellers from Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom are no longer waiting to book their holidays. The last minute bookings are also very much an issue there. The popularity of top destinations is increasing rapidly, there is a real risk that the favourite destinations of Dutch holidaymakers will soon no longer be widely available.’ With the summer holidays just around the corner, TUI says it’s crucial to act quickly and book your preferred destination and accommodation before it’s no longer available. The high summer bookings for Turkey started a little later, so this destination still offers plenty of options, with holiday resorts in the region of Antalya, Dalaman and Izmir. There is also still supply in Spain and Greece at the moment. ‘But that will be booked up quickly, now that last-minute bookings are picking up steam in the Northern European countries.’ (Photo Shutterstock).
